Coffee Roast

COFFEE ROAST TYPE

Coffee roast type is an important factor to consider when selecting and brewing coffee. Coffee roast type refers to the degree to which coffee beans have been roasted, which can affect the taste, aroma, and body of the brewed coffee. There are generally three main types of coffee roasts: light roast, medium roast, and dark roast.

LIGHT ROAST

This roast produces a light brown color and a mild flavor, with a higher acidity and a subtle taste of the coffee’s origin. Light roast coffee beans also tend to have more caffeine than medium or dark roast beans, as the longer roasting time reduces caffeine levels. These coffees are often preferred by those who enjoy a lighter, more nuanced taste, and are particularly popular among specialty coffee enthusiasts.

MEDIUM ROAST

This roast produces a medium brown color and a slightly sweeter taste. Medium roast coffee has a slightly lower acidity than light roast. These coffees are often preferred by those who enjoy a well-rounded taste
profile with a good balance of acidity and bitterness. Medium roast coffee is also a popular choice for espresso-based drinks, as it has enough complexity to stand up to milk and other flavorings.

DARK ROAST

This roast produces a dark brown color and a strong, bold, bitter flavor. Dark roast coffee has a lower acidity than medium or light roast. Dark roast coffee also has less caffeine than lighter roasts, as the longer roasting time causes some of the caffeine to break down. These coffees are often preferred by those who enjoy a strong, bold taste and are looking for a coffee with a full-bodied flavor profile. Dark roast coffee is also a popular choice for espresso drinks, as it can cut through milk and other flavorings.
